xquisite releases is ecstatic to present PARIDAIZA the new release by susu laroche.

the singular style of laroche’s sound comes to a calamitous head in PARIDAIZA, forging the basis of a sound the artist calls ‘dungeon debke’. 

the dungeon is felt, the walls and claustraphobia of emotion and darkness are eminating from each track but something is trancended and a place that could have meant torture or imprisonment becomes an escape into the beauty of ritual meditation and immanence.

the chants and calls that haunt laroche’s music recontextualise words from such sources as the ancient poet Rumi and the protest chants of the arab spring, melting the history and present of the middle east into a sonic tapestry of insurgence and spirituality that hypnotises.

laroche evokes queen tamar, first king/queen of georgia to renounce the gendering of her title. in PARIDAIZA susu takes as patron this figure of ancient rebellion.
